Unit 8: HTML and Web Authoring Software
W3schools HTML Tutorial: http://www.w3schools.com/HTML/
I have actually used this website extensively before. I like this website because it is a really good place to find a wide variety of colors and instantly get their hex values. It also has a lot of helpful tag resources and it describes and explains how to use them all!
This is a great tool (and cheat sheet) when you need to create a webpage or edit a webpage.
HTML Cheatsheet: http://www.webmonkey.com/reference/HTML_Cheatsheet/
I have not used or come across this HTML cheat sheet. It doesn't have as much information as the W3 school's website, and it lacks a lot of the tag references that are helpful in creating a website. It's not organized as well either. This would be a good website to create a very basic webpage.
W3 School Cascading Style Sheet Tutorial:
http://www.w3schools.com/css/default.asp
This tutorial, like the HTML one has been very helpful when I have worked on past webpages. The examples and references are especially helpful. Although I have more experience with HTML so I tend to shy away from CSS. If I were forced to use it I'm sure I would reference this website.
Goans, D., Leach, G., & Vogel, T. M. (2006). Beyond HTML: Developing and re-imagining library web guides in a content management system. Library Hi Tech, 24(1), 29-53.
This article chronicles the process of creating a content management system webpage for the Georgia State University Library. The original web page was pieced together by several different individuals and had no cohesion. They worked to create templates that would help with the change over, and then leave a guide for adding information in the future. I will admit that there was a lot of technology within this article that I didn't really understand, but I could understand that the overhaul of the GSU library website was successful.
I found the cheat sheet to be helpful when it came to understanding the code itself. I agree that it would not help on build a website, but it did help me gather more knowledge about code and feel more confident when it came to reading the W3 tutorial.
ReplyDeleteDidnt you find the Leach article alarming? I also found it difficult to sort through some of the more technical jargon, but was enthralled by the initial lack of guide structure.
